In my class I presented an article about Dr. McCabe's visit to SIUC in February. My international students confirmed for me several assumptions. In our countries, they said, scholarship is defined as copying. Remembering and copying the experts. It's slightly more than that, of course. You must figure out your teacher's opinion, then find the right scholar to copy; then, remember and copy the right passage. Then, you've made it.
welcome
This weblog is about my efforts, sometimes futile, to teach about plagiarism to international students. Deeper in the blog is a documented story (if the newspaper articles still are there) about how a really nice guy made a mistake...however, that's water under the bridge. My classes have always been full of nice people who made mistakes.Previous Posts
